Instead of forcing the original design, I let the fabric and the dye do some of the work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe blue background was created with sprayed water and salt, producing an organic, shifting texture across the silk. The two large roses were built from a spontaneous blend of approximately five pink, red, and brown tones, allowed to mingle directly on the fabric before salt was added to create dramatic variations within the petals.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMetallic rust-colored paint defines the rose petals, while warm gold metallic highlights catch the light and add a subtle glow to the finished design.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause the color variation comes partly from the unpredictable interaction of dye, water, and salt, this process cannot be precisely reproduced.
