A floral-inspired silk scarf without a single literal flower.

Autumn Gate is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted habotai silk scarf inspired by the intricate wrought-iron gates of the 18th century. Rather than depicting flowers directly, the design uses flowing ornamental linework to suggest a garden through the language of ironwork.

The silk itself is painted in a warm autumn palette of golden yellows and glowing oranges, creating the feeling of late-summer light giving way to the deeper warmth of fall. Across that luminous background, pink and green linework creates an almost floral pattern without ever becoming literal flowers.

Bold black outlining gives the design its wrought-iron character, with touches of silver painted over portions of the black linework. A rusty metallic tone follows sections of the pink design, while fine gold accents are painted sparingly around the scarf, creating subtle flashes of shimmer as the silk catches the light.

Creating the intricate linework required many cycles of the dyeing and painting process, allowing each layer to develop while preserving the precision of the design. The result is a wearable piece of original artwork with the character of an old garden gate transformed into color, silk, and light.
