Harmony is an original limited edition lithograph by Amy Poole (Bridges), created during the research and development that eventually led to the Dance Through Time exhibition.

While not officially part of that series, this work represents an important stage in its evolution, exploring the visual language, symbolism, and aesthetics that informed the larger body of work.

Printed by hand using traditional lithographic techniques with oil-based inks on thick cotton paper, each impression carries the subtle variations that make original printmaking unique.

Inspiration

Before creating Dance Through Time, I spent months researching dance traditions, costume, symbolism, and cultural influences.

Harmony emerged from that period of exploration.

Rather than documenting a specific historical moment, the lithograph reflects an appreciation for the visual richness of modern tribal style belly dance—its layered textiles, expressive adornment, and powerful stage presence.

It became a study in balance, movement, and identity, while helping shape ideas that would later develop into the exhibition.

Composition

The composition centers on the portrait of a modern tribal style belly dancer, adorned with the distinctive jewelry, costume, and dramatic facial styling associated with the form.

To one side, the background is intentionally textured through scuffed lithographic mark-making, creating visual contrast with the refined portrait.

Running through this textured space are symbolic elements that contribute to the composition: two stylized Eye of Horus motifs frame a small dancing figure dressed in layered, flowing skirts and posed barefoot in motion.

Together, these elements create a composition that balances portraiture, symbolism, and movement while reflecting the artist's early research into dance traditions.
