Hidden Oasis is a celebration of abundance.

Painted over the course of nearly a year, this original watercolor explores what happens when the traditional expectations of the medium are intentionally challenged. Rather than relying on watercolor's characteristic transparency, I embraced layer upon layer of carefully built color to capture the richness and complexity found in nature itself.

Water is never simply blue.
Leaves are never simply green.

Every surface in the natural world is made of countless subtle shifts in color, light, and reflected atmosphere. Hidden Oasis was created to honor that truth.

The painting invites the viewer into a secluded landscape where a quiet waterfall spills into a peaceful pool. Gentle ripples spread across the water as flower petals drift onto its surface, surrounded by lush grasses, broad tropical foliage, weathered stone, and vibrant blossoms. Every section rewards slow viewing, revealing new color relationships and details with time.

To complete the work, I built a custom frame specifically for this painting by hand. Every stage—from the painting itself to its final presentation—was created as part of a single artistic vision.

About My Watercolor Practice

Much of traditional watercolor celebrates restraint and transparency. My work follows a different path.

I use watercolor's remarkable ability to build luminous layers of color, allowing depth, atmosphere, and vibrancy to emerge over time. The result is work that many viewers initially mistake for gouache, yet every layer remains rooted in the unique qualities that only watercolor can provide.

Hidden Oasis represents one of the most ambitious explorations of that philosophy within my work.
