Spanish Moss | Limited Edition Lithograph Print (Black & White Louisiana Landscape)
Limited Edition Print • Louisiana-Inspired Work • Early Lithography Study • Signed Original Series
Spanish Moss is a limited edition lithograph by Amy Bridges, created from memory and lived experience of the Louisiana landscapes that shaped her early visual language.
This black and white composition captures a quiet coastal moment where land, water, and air blur into one continuous atmosphere. A heron stands perched atop a grassy, moss-covered cliff as Spanish moss drapes downward in long, atmospheric strands, dissolving into the space around it. Below, water stretches outward into the distance, soft and expansive, reinforcing the stillness of the scene.
This is also one of the earliest lithographs in my practice, created during a period of learning the technical printmaking process. In focusing on the mechanics of the medium, the image was printed in reverse—an early lesson in the precision required by lithographic work. Rather than correcting it, I chose to let it remain as part of the object’s history.
Inspiration
This work comes directly from my upbringing in Louisiana, where Spanish moss, slow waterlines, and low coastal horizons were part of everyday visual life.
Over time, those landscapes became less about specific locations and more about mood—about the feeling of standing in a place where time moves differently.
Spanish Moss reflects that memory-based atmosphere rather than a literal landscape.
It is a study in quiet observation.
Composition
A heron anchors the composition at the top of a mossy, grassy rise, acting as both focal point and witness.
Below it, Spanish moss cascades in layered strands, softening the structure of the land and creating a natural veil between foreground and distance.
The water extends outward in a low, subtle gradient, dissolving into the horizon and reinforcing the sense of depth without distraction.
The entire scene is rendered in black and white, emphasizing form, texture, and atmosphere over color.

About This Work
Spanish Moss is a quiet reflection on place and memory.
It holds a landscape that is not just seen, but remembered—the soft drape of moss, the stillness of a heron, and the slow stretch of water meeting distance.
As an early lithograph, it also carries the imprint of process: learning the discipline of reversal, registration, and precision inherent to printmaking.
It is both image and artifact—an early step in a longer practice of translating place into print.
