Some paintings become milestones.

"Rainbow Lilies" is that painting for me.

Created from the canna lilies growing in my own garden, this silk painting began with something I had noticed countless times but had never truly explored: the incredible rainbow of color hidden within a single leaf. Greens shifted into pinks, yellows, oranges, reds, purples, and blues through delicate natural veining that most people walk past without ever seeing.

I wanted to paint that moment of discovery.

Every brushstroke was applied directly to silk, allowing the dyes to flow through the fibers while preserving the intricate network of color that makes these leaves so extraordinary. The finished piece celebrates not only the beauty of the plants themselves, but the idea that remarkable things often exist quietly within the ordinary.

More than any painting before it, Rainbow Lilies changed how I saw myself as an artist. It was the work that showed me what I was capable of creating. It became a turning point in my artistic journey and continues to shape the work I create today.

Although the original now resides in a private collection, it remains one of the defining works of my portfolio and continues to inspire new artwork, surface pattern collections, and fine art prints.
