Silver Bloom | Original Hand-Painted Bookmark
A metallic floral form emerges from shifting layers of light and color in this original hand-painted bookmark.
Silver Bloom features a stylized floral design rendered in metallic silver linework, painted over a dynamic background of black transitioning into bright green. Rather than a smooth gradient, the background is built from visible diagonal brushstrokes, creating directional movement that suggests light passing across a surface.
The silver floral form sits atop this layered foundation, catching contrast and brightness as it interacts with the underlying color shifts. The result is a piece that feels both structured and fluid—part botanical study, part abstract light experiment.
Each bookmark is individually hand painted, making every piece a unique exploration of movement, reflection, and layered color.

About the Work
Silver Bloom is part of an ongoing exploration of how light and form interact within layered color fields. The floral structure is intentionally simplified to emphasize contrast, movement, and the reflective quality of metallic paint.
Each bookmark is part of my ongoing exploration of color, texture, and technique in small-scale studies that allow for experimentation while remaining fully finished, collectible works.
My bookmarks began out of frustration with mass-produced, flimsy designs that couldn’t survive real use. As an avid reader who often moves between multiple books at once, I needed bookmarks that could withstand daily life—books in bags, cars, hands, and constant movement.
Each piece is built on paper that is sealed with multiple coats of gesso on both sides before painting begins, creating a strong archival surface. Once the artwork is complete, each bookmark is sealed with several thin layers of acrylic medium (matte or gloss), carefully diluted with water to allow smooth, even build-up without stickiness.
This slow, layered process creates a durable yet flexible surface designed for real-world use. Bookmarks are created in small batches, often 20–30 at a time, with full completion taking up to two weeks due to drying and sealing stages between layers.
The result is a functional art piece designed not only to be visually expressive, but resilient enough for everyday reading life.
