Sinking Lilies | Original Silk Painting Mounted on Canvas

Created on 100% silk, Sinking Lilies explores the quiet movement of water through the movement of dye itself.

Inspired by the long tradition of water lily paintings, this original work imagines the flowers slipping beneath the surface rather than floating above it. Layers of luminous blue surround soft hints of pink, creating the impression of blossoms slowly disappearing into moving water where light, depth, and reflection become one.

Unlike traditional painting, this piece was created through a specialized silk painting process. White silk was carefully compressed into sculptural folds using crumpled aluminum foil before multiple shades of blue and touches of pink were applied one drop at a time with an eyedropper. As the dye traveled naturally through the silk fibers, untouched areas remained brilliantly white while the flowing pigments formed organic textures that resemble rippling water and submerged flowers.

The interaction between dye, water, and silk makes every movement permanent and impossible to duplicate exactly. The silk itself becomes an active participant in the creation of the image, producing effects that cannot be recreated through brushwork alone.

Once complete, the original silk painting was professionally mounted to a gallery-wrapped canvas, preserving both the delicate character of the silk and the contemporary presentation of fine art.

About the Artist

I believe art belongs everywhere—not only on gallery walls, but as part of everyday life.

Silk has become one of my favorite fine art mediums because it refuses to be completely controlled. Rather than forcing the material to behave like canvas, I work with its natural movement, allowing the flow of dye through the silk fibers to become part of the final composition. Each original silk painting is a collaboration between artist and medium, making every piece entirely unique.
