Inspiration

This work emerged from an exploration of perception through repetition and carving.

The subject—a diagonal eye—became a study in how form changes when reduced to structure and contrast. Through the process of carving and printing, the image of the eye began to shift in meaning, becoming less about literal representation and more about pattern, light, and awareness.

Over time, the act of printing itself began to influence how I understood seeing.

Composition

The composition features a diagonally oriented eye rendered in bold black ink through woodcut relief printing.

The white areas represent both negative space and illuminated form, shaping the highlights, sclera, and reflective surfaces of the eye.

The contrast between carved black ink and exposed white paper creates a stark visual tension that emphasizes structure, abstraction, and perception.
